Have you ever considered canceling your cable television? It’s a thought I’ve had and considered many times. Before I was married I went without cable for an entire year but not to save money. Sometimes life is just better when you don’t spend it in front of the tube.

At the end of 2009 I was fed up with my high cable bill. I decided to take action and I ended up saving $480 on my cable bill for the next year. If I ever do cancel my cable I will certainly keep my Internet service.

Living in the age that we do there are still plenty of ways to get caught up on the latest TV highlights without paying for cable. You don’t need cable to watch the best shows. There are plenty of ways to watch TV for free and have movies ready to go whenever you are in the mood. If you have a new flat screen you might be able to use your TV as a monitor.

Hulu

You’ve probably seen the commercials for Hulu but very few people are using this free television service. Hulu plays TV shows the day after they have aired. They do have short 15-30 second commercials but that is nothing compared to 3 minute commercial breaks when watching the real thing. I had been using Hulu to watch Conan O’Brien until his last show on Friday. There is always something fun to watch on Hulu.

ESPN

Guys what would you do without your SportsCenter? ESPN has an answer, you can watch online. Go to ESPN Video to get caught up on the latest highlights.

Watch full episodes at the Networks website

CBS, NBC, ABC and FOX all allow you to watch full episodes of shows that have already aired. Just head over to your favorite network website and watch online.

Netfilx

Netflix is a great service for anyone without cable. You can get an unlimited number of DVDs sent to your house and watch them at your own pace. Netflix also has a ton of movies available to watch online. Their basic packages start at just $5 a month.
