I recently purchased the money life basics series package from Crown Financial. The package includes six quality financial books for $42. It’s a great series of information that helps you build a sound financial foundation. The books are all less than 100 pages but provide good financial information about topics everyone needs to know.

The first book in the series is Debt & Bankruptcy. I wanted to start with other books in the package but I’m making myself read them in the order they are listed on the Crown website. I wouldn’t trust myself to read them all if I did it any other way.

Debt and Bankruptcy covers three main topics. Debt and Credit, Bankruptcy, and Gambling. The author addresses debt and credit from a Biblical perspective and explains what the Bible says about borrowing money. There is the right way to borrow money and the wrong way. Borrowing money without having equity in a asset to back the loan is unwise and risky. The author explains what the risks are and how to avoid them when making major purchases.

The next section is on bankruptcy. The book explains what the different types of types are and how to protect yourself if you are filing for bankruptcy. Many people worry that bankruptcy is not ethical. We need to pay off the debt that we owe, even if we file for bankruptcy.

Finally gambling, one of the leading causes of debt and financial turmoil. The lottery, slot machines and trips to Vegas are fun ideas. Unfortunately they are not good ideas. Debt & Bankruptcy talks about the different types of gamblers and how each type loses in the end.
