Getting out of debt is not easy. For most it’s a long uphill battle that requires self-discipline and focus. Usually it also requires us to change our behavior or lifestyle so that we stop spending more than we are saving. Here are 5 quick tips that can help you start getting out of debt.
1. Asses your situation – What are you spending your money on? Take a look at everything you have spent money on during the last month. If you don’t have that information then keep track of how you spend your money for the next month. You need to see where your money is going. Once you see how you spend your money you may realize that you have to make some lifestyle changes. Some things will have to change so that there will be more money available.
2. Create a budget – After you know where you money goes create a budget. Set your goals for saving and determine what you will use each month to pay down your debt. 3. Increase your income – Look for opportunities to earn extra money. There are lot’s of ways to earn extra money and all of them take hard work. Avoid any get rich quick ideas and anything that sounds too good to be true. Extra income is the perfect weapon in the debt reduction fight.
4. Pay off high smaller debts first – Wouldn’t it feel good to pay off one of your debts? It’s easier to do if you start with the smallest balance first. Once you have paid that first debt off you can add the payment you were making and apply it to your next debt. This helps you to stay focused on one debt at a time and feel good about paying off your debt.
5. Don’t get in more debt! – Stay disciplined and avoid wasteful spending. If you are in debt because you over spent you will have to alter your spending behavior. Stay focused on eliminating debt.
